Director of Development, West Coast - LA

The Director of Development, West Coast will develop a comprehensive program of major gifts fundraising that builds and sustains relationships and support throughout the West Coast with a focus on the Los Angeles and San Francisco/Silicon Valley metro areas. The Director of Development, West Coast will focus his/her time on identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors capable of making major gifts in support of the Foundation’s goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead major gifts officer in the West Coast, with a focus on the Los Angeles and San Francisco/Silicon Valley metro areas, in all aspects of identification, cultivation, and solicitation for a portfolio of individual major donors, family foundations, and select corporations. •Recruit and manage fundraising volunteers who are engaged in major gift fundraising efforts. • Maintain up to date knowledge of the major gifts philanthropic landscape; i.e. stay abreast of major individual donors, corporate foundations, giving trends, and charitable contributions. •Be held accountable for donor visit and revenue goals contributing to overall major gift revenue goal. •Conduct research on new donor prospects and continue ongoing background research on current donors and formulate cultivation/solicitation strategies for each identified potential donor. •Build relationships across the Foundation to ensure priorities are established and a focus is outlined as the Foundation grows gathering pertinent information and data to build and strengthen the dialogue and the craftsmanship of excellent proposals. •Assist in advancing and securing Foundation gifts and volunteer leadership for the Foundation’s signature events and organize major donor cultivation events on the West Coast.

Required Qualifications • Minimum 10+ years of proven experience in individual fundraising and demonstrated financial success. •Bachelor’s degree and an astute understanding of the West Coast, with a focus on the Los Angeles and San Francisco/Silicon Valley metro philanthropic landscapes. •Corporate, foundation, and/or non-profit industry experience. •Ability to represent the organization in a variety of settings. •Excellent verbal and written communication skills. •Strong interpersonal skills, maturity and good judgment and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment with dynamic range of people. •Flexibility to travel and work evenings and weekends as required.
