Knowledge & Research Manager Company: The Eastern Cape Appropriate Technology Unit (ecatu)

The Eastern Cape Appropriate Technology Unit (ECATU) was established as a Schedule 3 Public Entity, with its offices at Mount Pleasant Farm in Mthatha, and reports to the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Bhisho. The Organisation has a considerable track record in the planning and implementation of programmes/projects aimed at introducing appropriate technologies and sustainable poverty eradication methodologies in rural and poor communities.

The following position exists to be filled:

Knowledge & Research Manager

Key responsibilities: • Develop and monitor the implementation of a knowledge management strategy and plan • Identify, develop and articulate knowledge and information management systems that will add value to the organisation and enable collaborative working within the organisation and its partners • Undertake needs assessments with regard to information requirements of the organisation and develop a strategy to address these • Design effective data collection tools to meet identified information requirements • Develop, implement and maintain a database containing various organisational and departmental information • Provide end-user training on the use of knowledge and information management tools standards and processes • Develop and maintain knowledge to support innovation-led development • Validate and update information on the database • Compile and disseminate relevant information tools and learning materials • Manage and update the organisation’s website.

Requirements: • Relevant degree with bias to Knowledge and Research Management. An Honours or a Master’s degree will be a definite advantage • Knowledge and information dissemination skills • Ability to design and manage knowledge and information systems • Good understanding of socio-economic matters • Minimum of three years’ experience in knowledge and research management • Excellent computer skills • Ability to maintain website and intranet • Good written and verbal communication skills • Good presentation skills • Proven and self-evident ability to work with and lead a team effectively • Strong liaison and networking skills • Ability to structure and manage programmes involving a range of provincial and national stakeholders • Project management skills • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking abilities.

Remuneration: Salary package for the position is negotiable. The successful candidate will be appointed on a contract basis.
