Emergency Field Director International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading global humanitarian and post-conflict development organisation working in more than 20 conflict-affected countries worldwide. The IRC’s Emergency Response Team launches programmes to aid communities impacted by war and natural disasters. The ERT is the first on the ground to ensure that people get help when they need it most. The International Programmes Team (IPT) based in the UK office has responsibility for raising funds and implementation of contracts for IRC’s field work. It also has a coordination responsibilty with the Consortium of British Humanitarian Agencies (CBHA).

Under the direction of the Director of Emergencies based in the New York office, the Emergency Field Director would lead the IRC’s Emergency Response Team providing management guidance to ensure rapidity of response, scale of assistance and quality within programming. The successful candidate will be confident, eloquent and organized, as the Emergency Response Team will rely on their leadership during times of high pressure and competing priorities. When not leading emergency responses, the Emergency Field Director will work in close collaboration with the IRC UK office to build awareness of the IRC’s emergency response capabilities within the UK donor and public communities. Visiting with donors and other interested stakeholders to explain how IRC saves lives will be an important component of the Field Director’s role. It is anticipated that the Field Director will spend half of their time deployed within emergencies.
