Communications Manager (Global Focus) Grade: P5

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
UNITAID's mission is to contribute to the scale-up of access to treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis for people in developing countries by leveraging quality drugs and diagnostics price reduction, and accelerating the pace at which they are made available.
Description of duties:
Lead the development and implementation of a communication strategy, monitor its impact and adjust plans accordingly.
Lead the development, use, monitoring and improvement of brand guidelines and key messages.
Oversee the development, management and continuous improvement of the UNITAID website.
Ensure UNITAID's effective presence in social media platforms.
Lead the implementation of a media strategy across all media, including press and broadcast.
Identify, propose and organize effective participation of UNITAID at appropriate events.
Develop and organize communications campaigns or events as needed.
Ensure high quality and up to date communication products are available (publications, media products).
Advise and guide the Executive Director, Board Members, UNITAID managers and staff on communications issues in general and specifically advise on appropriate responses in sensitive situations.
Manage the Communication team, motivating, developing and guiding staff appropriately.
Plan, manage and monitor workplans and budgets related to Communications activities ensuring compliance with WHO and UNITAID Rules.
Take on other relevant tasks as agreed with Supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential
Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, international relations or related field.

Desirable
Training or certifications in the area of public health.
Skills:
In-depth understanding of communications work, both at strategic and operational level.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative ideas.
Demonstrated skills in leading and managing a team and managing workplans and budgets.
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to influence across the organization and externally.
Strong organizational and managerial skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
Computer literacy.

Experience:
Essential
At least 10 years relevant experience in communications, media or public relations of which at least five years should be in an international context.
Strong track record in leading and managing communications activities.
Extensive operational experience in a broad range of communications activities (media, public relations, websites, social media).
Experience in designing and producing multi-media products.
Experience with website development and design.

Desirable
Experience in working with NGOs and civil society.
Relevant experience in the private sector, preferably in public relations or public affairs.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a working knowledge of the other language are essential.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 80734 at single rate
USD 86904 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 101.5 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
