Executive Director – Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 3.2 members and supporters working to end a range of human rights violations. Amnesty International has its institutional presence in more than 70 countries of the world. The organization is looking to recruit an experienced Executive Director to shape the human rights agenda of Amnesty International in Ukraine and to help develop the organizational operations in the country. As Executive Director, you will manage the office, campaign activities and strengthen public support for human rights. Reporting directly to the Secretary General of Amnesty International, you will act as the spokesperson of the organization in Ukraine to the media and other stakeholders and represent the organization nationally at required levels.

About the role

Making a real impact in Ukraine means working closely with the Secretary General and local and international stakeholders – defining effective strategies to establish, growing and shaping our human rights agenda. It also means planning and managing campaign activities that strengthen public support for human rights – monitoring our performance, reviewing and developing strategies in line with evolving needs. Beyond that, you’ll act as key spokesperson to Ukrainian government officials, the media and other authorities; representing Amnesty International to the highest level as you drive recognition for our work and bolster support.

About you

We’re looking for a Director with experience in managing strategic and operational planning within a complex organisation. We need a person with an excellent record of managing organisational change, influencing overall direction; and with the ability to take a strategic and tactical approach to delivering effective solutions. With first class communication skills, you’ll have excellent qualities of negotiating, influencing and building strong working relationships at all levels, and representing the organisation on an international scale. Fluent in Ukrainian and English you will have spent time working within the Ukraine and have an in-depth knowledge of the relevant human rights challenges. Knowledge of Russian language will be an advantage.

About us

Our aim is to end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for human rights wherever they’re denied. Already our network of over three million members and supporters is making a difference in more than 150 countries through their activism. Whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research and direct lobbying, mass demonstrations, human rights education, or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world with human rights.

Amnesty International is an equal opportunities employer and seeks to promote and celebrate diversity and equality in our workforce.

Closing date: Noon GMT on Friday 16th March
