International Development Recruitment Intern

Reports to: Recruiting Manager

Location: Washington, DC

I. TechnoServe Background:

TechnoServe is an international, non-profit economic development organization founded in 1968 out of a conviction that a vibrant private sector is an essential foundation for economic growth and poverty reduction. TechnoServe undertakes targeted, catalytic technical assistance and other programming to increase the competitiveness of entrepreneurs, businesses and industries that in-turn provide sustainable employment, inclusion of the poor and increased incomes. TechnoServe operates in 25 developing countries with over 1000 employees. A substantial portion of our work is in agriculture, enhancing farm productivity and commodity quality and addressing gaps in processing and other agribusiness capacities. Our programs increase smallholder access to new technologies, aggregation and storage mechanisms, markets, critical information and finance. TechnoServe also undertakes structured programs to identify and support high potential entrepreneurs in various sectors through leadership mentoring networks, formalization support, access to capital and development of sustainable business services such as accounting, finance, marketing and human resource management.


II. Position Description:

Primarily, the International Development Recruitment Intern focuses on providing administrative support to TNS global, and professionally performing all functional area activities leading to the effective facilitation of recruitment processes. The functional areas activity includes: Recruitment administration, scheduling candidate interviews, and employee relations. As well, interns are to assist with ad hoc projects, proposal support, sharing knowledge and lessons learned across the region and within the organization, and attend various meetings in the D.C. area on recruitment and staffing issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducting candidate follow ups
• Maintaining applicant tracking flow
• Assists in conducting recruitment effort for TNS global hires, including temporary employees; conducts new-; and assists with the placement of advertisements.
• Data Entry
• Answer phones


III. Required Skills & Experience:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Administration/Human Resources Management or related area
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills a must.
• Background or interest in employment law, international business development, human resources, and other government compliance regulatory guidelines
• Intern is required to work at least 20hrs/week
• Highly organized and able to juggle multiple tasks
• Enthusiastic self-starter.
• Interest in working in international development (Africa or Latin America), business or fundraising.
• Proficient in MS Office suite with advanced Excel experience
