The ITT department is based in the General Management Cluster (GMG) of the World Health Organization (WHO). Its main objective is to provide high-quality and cost-effective Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services which assist WHO in achieving its mission of health for all.

The ITT department's main objective is to provide high quality and cost effective Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services which assist WHO in achieving its mission of health for all.

The objective of the Global Workspace Services team is to support WHO staff and partners with managed Information and Communication devices and services that are relevant, accessible and secure, enabling the Organization to work better, smarter and faster.

The Global Operations Services provides relevant, accessible and secure, managed Information and Communication devices and services to staff worldwide.

Under the supervision of the Manager (Global Workspace Services), the incumbent will manage the Global Workspace Operations. This includes the day-to-day management of the Global Workspace Operations, performance management; plan monitoring and evolution; managing the asset inventory and the procurement of IT-related purchases; recommending infrastructure improvements; and developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with operational policies and procedures.

The responsibilities include the following (but not limited to):

Assist in the development of the strategic plan for all operational activity
Implement and monitor the annual and medium term operational plans, program and projects to meet overall objectives and agreed timings
Ensure effective internal communications both within the operations team and across the organization
Responsible for managing the budgets for all projects, and related development activities
In support of the Client Services Manager, provide monthly information to enable the creation of financial results and forecasts for the operations team
Establish and maintain appropriate staff resources of the operations team to ensure that projects are delivered
To establish clear organizational structures for the operations team, including responsibilities and accountabilities of individuals
Drive initiatives in the management team and organizationally that contribute to long-term operational excellence
Coordinate with other I.T. teams to lead roll-out of new capabilities, training, and trouble-shooting
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential
University degree in computer science, engineering, or information management

Desirable
Relevant professional training and/or certification (e.g. Microsoft Certifications, ITIL Certifications, etc.).
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of all Microsoft Windows operating systems, especially Windows 7;
In-depth knowledge of Windows Active Directory technologies;
Extensive knowledge in software application management, configuration and automated installations;
Strong knowledge in networking methodologies especially relating to Remote Access and VPN;
Ability to acquire an understanding, identify underlying issues or causes, and resolve complex problems;
Skilled in application management, configuring, automating installations, and ensuring the functioning of corporate legacy applications in the new environment.
Experience:
Essential

Minimum 5 years' experience in the area of I.T. operations and support, with at least 2 years' experience at the International level. Proven experience in managing a team of I.T. software and hardware engineers.
Some experience also required in the following areas:
o Applications and Software Engineering
o ICT Platform and Systems Engineering
o Systems Administration and Operations
o ICT Project Management and Delivery
o ICT User Support and Training
o Technical Documentation and Communication.

Desirable

Working experience in an I.T. environment of a UN based organization or experience in working with country or regional branches of an organization.
Languages:
Expert knowledge of English both written and spoken. Knowledge of other official WHO language(s) would be an advantage.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD56,018 net of tax at single rate
USD60,013 net of tax with primary dependants
