IRENA is an inter-governmental organization, mandated by Governments to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. It facilitates and catalyses sharing of best practices and lessons learned regarding policy frameworks, capacity-building initiatives, available finance mechanisms and relevant technologies on renewable energy.

IRENA would promote North-South and South-South technology cooperation to strengthen and enhance existing scientific and technical capabilities, particularly in developing countries, to make appropriate technology choices. IRENA will also support member countries in meeting such challenges and facilitating contact with such sources of technical assistance as Members may require.

Under the guidance of the Director, Knowledge Management and Technical Cooperation, the Senior Programme Officer - Technical Cooperation is expected to successfully coordinate a wide variety of stakeholders in a highly efficient and professional manner and will:

  1. Interact with member states to identify priorities, assess existing technologies, partnerships and mechanisms to support technology cooperation, in order to respond to the needs of member states, appropriately;
  2. Initiate the process of creating a network of National and International centres of excellence, working in the field of renewable energy and explore the possibility of bilateral and multi-lateral partnerships;
  3. Analyse the components of technical cooperation like demonstration projects, capacity building, technology transfer, manufacturing support, that would make a technical cooperation strategy successful;
  4. Develop and initiate strategy for collaborating with Industry, Technology Centres and member states through appropriate mechanisms;
  5. Keep abreast of trends, key topics and initiatives in RE technology;
  6. Support the processes within the Directorate for effective implementation of the Work Programme;
  7. Supervise preparation of various written outputs - background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications;
  8. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Advanced University degree in the field of engineering, energy, and/or any other relevant field. A first university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in liue of the advanced university degree.

Experience: Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in administering technical assistance programmes, establishing and coordinating technology focused partnerships. Experience in structuring collaboration, working with government and non-governmental entities to set up modalities for collaboration. Experience in designing and implementing/coordinating projects with multilevel stakeholders and working with a rapidly-expanding stakeholder community by drawing on their knowledge, experience and resources. Experience in international cooperation and in dealing with bilateral/multilateral funding agencies and forums. Specific experience in energy sector, renewable energy sector, clean technologies is also highly desirable. Good knowledge of renewable energy technologies would be desirable.

Language: Excellent command of both written and spoken English is essential.
