Marketing Specialist - International Potato Center (CIP)

International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Marketing Specialist with high level of commitment to conduct markets and value chains for agroforestry products for a hosted center, The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF).

The position: This position will be based in Lima, Peru and will contribute to the World Agroforestry Centre’s work in understanding the potential of markets and market-based interventions to reduce rural poverty in the developing world. The person should have experience in conducting research on markets for agroforestry products, value chains for agroforestry products, and businesses and farmers and produce, process, and sell agroforestry products.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Conduct market research focusing on:
      • Value chain analysis including post-harvest handling, for agroforestry tree products
      • Consumer demand studies
      • Enterprise development
      • Rural livelihoods, vulnerability, and risk-reducing mechanisms
  • Interact with other senior staff to ensure useful incorporation of market-oriented activities into other aspects of the Centre’s work
  • Project development and implementation and fundraising in collaboration with senior staff.

Selection Criteria:

  • MSc in agricultural economics, a related social science, business management, or a related discipline
  • Research experience related to the marketing of agroforestry products, including tree fruits
  • Experience with analysis of smallholder production-to-marketing systems
  • Skills in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Familiarity with international agricultural and environmental research issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, fluency in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
  • Excellent team player;
  • Willingness to learn fast policies, administrative processes and procedures;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Willingness to travel frequently in Peru and internationally.

Conditions: This position is local and employment contract will be for a one-year term with six months of probation period and with the possibility of renewal. CIP prides itself on its collegial and supportive working environment, which allows space for personal and professional growth.
