Product Development Engineer -- Based in Uganda or Costa Rica

The Product Development Engineer role requires the ideal candidate to lead the following phases of Technical Solutions and products development cycle: Research, Design, Test and evaluation, implementation, Knowledge transfer and transition (to operations). Focus on field technical solutions including connectivity, telecommunications, information security, specialized software, value added services and others technologies, serving World Vision internal requirements as well as the needs of WVI projects and programs in different contexts world wide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Research
    • As requested, participate in research activities, including the development and maintenance of external relationship with academic and industry entities performing R&D or innovation activities on technological solutions of relevance for WV business and ministerial needs.
    • In alignment with the strategic map, and Balanced Score Card, flexibility to propose new research projects on new technologies or its applications in WV, to promote the innovation in the World Vision business and ministry.
    • Facilitate processes and tools for the research and development of network and communications solutions and other technologies for World Vision enterprise and ministerial needs

      Design
    • Collect and analyze business needs and requirements to design relevant solutions for World Vision entities in the field, as well as the world vision projects and programs.
    • Design products in alignment with the solutions architecture and standards up to date. This includes complete specification for the development and implementation phase.
    • Participate in the products development and solutions implementation as required.

      Test, document and evaluate.
    • Test, document, and evaluate the solutions to be implemented, including the development of Proof of Concepts, Pilots, etc, in coordination with others FSG members.

      Implementation
    • Lead or supervise the implementation of global the developed solutions-products
    • Engage with Service Delivery Managers for the implementation of the product/solutions in the field.

      Knowledge transfer
    • Facilitate the knowledge transfer on the developed solutions-products to the different audiences

      Transition
    • Manage the transition of the new products/solutions into operations, according to the sourcing model for the solution-product (external, or internal ie. Shared services centers, etc).From above, participate in the design of the operational support together with operations groups.
    • Manage assigned platforms, and conduct operational work on the solutions/products developed during the transition process.
    • Continues evaluation of the products/solutions currently in operation


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
      REQUIRED:
    • Able to work effectively in a complex, global organization.
    • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills and be able to work well in a team environment.
    • Understands World Vision ministry areas (sponsorship, relief, development and advocacy), issues and operations consequences, and expressed commitment.
    • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with peers.
    • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary and virtual teams with flexible and changing assignments.
    • Strong abstraction capacity
    • Strong documenting practices, synthesis capacity and likes for write papers and articles.
    • Project Management training and experience is required, Professional (PMP) certification a plus.
    • Flexible and willing to travel.
    • Schedule flexibility.
