Server System Administrator

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a successful Server System Administrator for the area of ITU (Information Technology Unit) with strong experience in Servers’ Infrastructure Management.

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research-for-development organization with a focus on potato, sweetpotato, and Andean roots and tubers. Its vision is of roots and tubers improving the lives of the poor. CIP is dedicated to achieving food security, improved well-being, and gender equity for poor people in root and tuber farming and food systems of the developing world. CIP works with partners to contribute high quality science, technology, and capacity strengthening for sustainable science-based solutions. CIP is headquartered in Lima, Peru, with staff and activities in over 30 locations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. CIP is a member of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, a network of 15 research centers mostly located in the developing world and supported by more than 50 donor members.

The position: The Server Systems Administrator position will be based in Lima, Peru and will report to the CIP’s Global Head of Management Information Systems. Its main responsibility will be managing the security and integrity of the information center. He/She shall be responsible for the task to plan and manage services on IT infrastructure for the development of staff activities and coordination of projects locally and internationally.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Provide maintenance of the Active Directory 2008 (CGIAR Global Infrastructure), DNS and DHCP group policy and software deployment
  • Manage Email system - MS Exchange (CGIAR Global Network Systems), through the verification of operation of the mail system CIP - CGIAR, provider service (including OWA), Spam and Malware, account management, collaboration tools, among others
  • Support internet service & security (ISA Server) through performance verification and firewall rules, VPN, Web filter, among others
  • Maintain and monitor the infrastructure of physical and virtual enterprise servers, manage and program the development of respective backups, file and application servers
  • Identify problems that may arise in the system and provide solutions
  • Manage the renewal of corporate software licenses, among other duties and responsibilities
  • Manage the server architecture technology evolution
  • Manage servers upgrade and servers architecture projects
  • Manage documentation of processes and procedures.

Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, System Engineer or related field;
  • At least 3 years experience required in similar position;
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification is desirable. Also, Microsoft MCSE certification and MS Exchange 2007/2010;
  • Experience in implementation of procedures and advanced knowledge of postal management, operating systems, servers, "Firewalls", networks, databases and backups, etc.;
  • A passion for delivering quality software solutions. Ability to troubleshoot effectively and be able to quickly and correctly diagnose what is wrong and how is the best way to fix it;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work well individually and as part of a team, internally as well as externally. Proactive behavior and client focus;
  • Demonstrated time management skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English language are required;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work in multicultural environment;
  • Understanding of physical and operational security.

Conditions: Employment contract will be for a one-year term with six months probation period with the possibility of renewal. CIP prides itself on its collegial and supportive working environment, which allows space for personal and professional growth.
