Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the fixed-term position of Manager, CA Committee in its Development and Outreach Department. The Manager, CA Committee will be responsible for supporting Human Rights Watch's fundraising, advocacy, and outreach efforts in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. This position will report to the Director of Development in Northern California.
Responsibilities:
  1. Manage the production of fundraising, outreach and cultivation events in Northern California, including HRW's annual Voices for Justice Dinners in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, researcher briefings, and advocacy events;
  2. Manage the logistical preparations, in liaison with the event production team, to produce the annual Voices for Justice Dinners;
  3. Assist the Director with identifying, cultivating, servicing, and soliciting individual donors, prospects and California Committee North members;
  4. Coordinate public programs and outreach, form relationships with partner organizations, and identify new opportunities;
  5. Manage aspects of the California Committee North Executive Committee including, quarterly meetings, monthly calls, and an annual retreat;
  6. Manage the California Committee North sub-committees including, scheduling meetings, calls, and following-up on initiatives;
  7. Create agendas, prepare background materials, and conduct follow-up to meetings;
  8. Manage communications with constituents via phone, mail and electronic media;
  9. Build and maintain local partner contacts;
  10. Provide membership support services for the San Francisco office, including mailings, gift tracking, gift processing and acknowledgments, using HRW's Raiser's Edge database;
  11. Create and track donor lists, fundraising, and expenses;
  12. Assist in the oversight and preparation of budgets;
  13. Oversee the work of the Development Associate in coordination with the Director;
  14. Supervise interns in conjunction with the Associate for the San Francisco office; and
  15. Perform other responsibilities as may be required.
Qualifications
Education:  An undergraduate degree is required; an advanced (graduate degree) is preferred.
Experience:The candidate should have fundraising and administrative experience as well as demonstrated experience with logistics, coordination and production of events.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
  1. Ability to develop and implement project timelines and execute these timelines working in liaison with staff and external partners.
  2. A disciplined self-starter with strong initiative and follow-through, the capacity to think creatively and strategically.
  3. Meticulous attention to detail and impeccable organizational skills are required.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW and external partners.
  5. Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure with the flexibility to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
  7. Familiarity with donor databases, particularly Raiser's Edge, is a plus, as is knowledge of graphic design and web tools.
  8. A strong commitment to human rights and/or international issues.
  9. Ability to work with donors
Other: Applicants for this position must possess current US work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.
Contract Duration:  June 2013 through November 2013
