AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents.   AGA employs over 62,000 people globally.  In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager.  Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.  The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade.  The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project).  Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

We are now seeking an experienced Mine Services and Design to join our Mining team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.

Accountable to the Mining Manager, this role is responsible for providing designs of mine services, infrastructure and features allowing for overall site impacts. The work involves close interaction with corporate life of mine team, Geotechnical Engineers, Planning Engineers and Mine Superintendents. This role provides a rare opportunity to be a part of a Greenfields construction phase team at a large open-pit Gold Mine from the ground up. This role is based at the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6:4/3 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

• Design of mining features including open pit mine, waste landforms, ROM, haulage roads and stockpiles
• Maintain 3D Vulcan compatible designs of features requiring bulk fill from mining activities
• Assessment and approval of LOM design against design standards, suitability to fit within mine services and other infrastructure, providing feedback to corporate engineers
• Monitor provision and address insufficient supply of water, power, dust suppression, stemming, road base and other services to the mining operations
• Develop strategy to supply of water and power to mining operations
• Rehabilitation, closure planning and cost estimation
• Coordination and development of the mining projects including road construction and waste landforms
• Monitor and coordinate installation/implementation of mining projects relating to mine services and landform construction
• Support the competent person for Mineral Reserves
• As required, provide supplementary support to planning through costs estimation, mine scheduling and

The ideal candidate will possess:

• At least 3 years engineering experience at two or more mining operations, including design of pits and waste landforms
• Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering or AusIMM accepted equivalent
• Experience with large scale open-pit hard rock mining
• Experience in managing mining and continuous improvement projects
• Competent in at least one General Mining Package (eg Vulcan, Datamine or MineSight), Whittle 4X and Microsoft Project
• Excellent computer skills such as basic scripting
