Diarrhoea is one of the biggest killers of children in developing countries, but progress in tackling the disease through the provision of clean water and sanitation is stalling in many countries; and globally, the 2015 Sanitation Millennium Development Goal is one of the most off-track. Yet the sector receives low priority, and has faced a declining share of aid over the last 15 years. This is despite the fact that on the rare occasions when the poor are asked about their development needs, access to safe and affordable drinking water frequently comes out as the highest priority.
Can you help WaterAid meet these challenges? Can you provide policy insight into the bottle-necks preventing water, sanitation and hygiene reaching those most in need? Is research and analysis your thing? Do you understand how policy change happens? Can you turn research and analysis into effective advocacy and campaigning messages? If you can answer yes to these questions, then we want to hear from you.
We are looking for a keen individual wanting to break into a career in international development to join WaterAid, as a Research Officer in the Policy Team on a fixed term contract.
You will be someone who is able to skill up quickly and support WaterAid's policy team on a broad range of work. You should have an interest in development and international relations, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to social justice through experience in campaigns, voluntary work, academic research or other processes of change. If successful, you should also be available to spend up to six months of the contract in a low-income, possibly fragile country where WaterAid works.
