Applications are invited for the newly created position of Vice President (Administration) of the University of the South Pacific, located at its main Laucala Campus, Suva, Fiji.
The Opportunity

The Vice President (Administration) will be pivotal in the achievement of USP’s Strategic Plan and Objectives. This impactful, new opportunity is designed to make major quality and innovative systems-oriented differences in the Pacific Region.

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor and President (VC&P) and as a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the newly created position of Vice President (Administration) provides progressive leadership and executive oversight in high quality administrative systems and is accountable for the delivery of key services and systems in ICT, planning and quality, and human resources through:

• Serving as an effective adviser to the VC&P and working in trusted collegial partnership with other members of the SMT to effectively lead and achieve the Strategic Plan;

• Providing oversight and guidance in the planning and assessment of institutional systems outcomes, and continuous improvement programs that are focused on service excellence with sophisticated, integrative planning and administrative system process integration;

• Providing executive oversight in the Administration portfolio to ensure plans and staff efforts add value to emergent client needs and support institutional outcomes;

• Overseeing accreditation implementation including facilitating intra-institutional partnerships and related coordination/liaison;

• Providing leadership in facilitating strategic and operational planning and quality assurance/audit processes;

• Ensuring effective system improvements and integration of ICT, planning and quality and HR services;

• Ensuring the strengthening and renewal of technology infrastructure to effectively align with recent ICT developments and meet USP’s Strategic Plan priorities;

• Liaising with various stakeholders on service developments, improvements to IT platforms, planning and quality modelling and HR leadership innovations;

• Acting as a change agent and advocating for improved administrative practices and for HR transformation to align with more modern and forward thinking practices;

The Person We Seek

The role will suit a candidate who can pursue USP’s Vision, Mission and Values of the Strategic Plan and has the power to motivate, empower and engage others. USP is therefore seeking a person with:

• Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a complex organisation;

• A higher degree from an internationally accepted University in one of the area of services of IT, planning or quality assurance;

• Extensive and demonstrated competence and experience in a senior management position related to any one of the programs and/ or services;

• Demonstrated achievements reflecting a commitment to excellence, innovation and continuous improvement;

• Excellent inter-personal skills, especially the ability to be an effective team leader promoting cohesiveness and collaborative work with a diverse group of people to engender mutual trust and respect;

• Ability to harness administrative systems aligned to institutional goals of excellence in learning and teaching, research and community engagement;

• Applied knowledge of methodologies, analysis and interpretation of institutional data; sound understanding of contemporary implications and transformational nature of technology;

• Excellent skills in executive level report writing and presentations;

• Strategic thinking and planning expertise which involves long term goals, identifying and meeting challenging objectives and implementing system wide plans; ability to continuously foster innovative strategies based on sound evidences that weigh different options for maximum efficiency to advance institutional goals;

• Ability to advance sound ethics and consistency across principles, values and behaviour;

• Promotes creative ideas to improve individual and team;

• Proven experience in building networks and engagement skills that foster and maintain consultative relationships.

Remuneration

The position is available for a term of 5 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement. The University provides a competitive remuneration package for the right candidate, including superannuation, and where appropriate, airfare and relocation costs.
