Position Summary
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure BG Group’s compliance with European gas and oil market regulations and market rules. The jobholder shall be responsible for:
  • Undertaking specific elements of the BG Compliance Program.
  • Providing advice to front, mid and back office on compliance issues and application of current regulations to existing and, importantly, new business opportunities.
  • Ensuring employees are trained on relevant regulations.
  • Working with the Chief Compliance Officer on the ongoing development and application of the Compliance Program with a focus on compliance control development and subsequent monitoring, management and review.
  • Performing periodic audits of BG Group’s Compliance Program.
  • Monitoring communications regarding commercial transactions to ensure compliance with agency regulations.
Key Accountabilities
  • Develop an understanding of the relevant regulatory/legal framework applicable to BG Group’s European business units, including Europe Gas Marketing, Supply & Optimisation and Oil Trading.
  • Advise front, mid and back office on compliance issues and compliance application of current regulations to existing and, importantly, new business opportunities.
  • Help the Chief Compliance Officer develop compliance policies and controls applicable to the business.
  • Work with the Chief Compliance Officer on the development/implementation of appropriate monitoring controls and subsequent review and management of the same.
  • Direct the implementation of financial reform requirements, including periodic liaising with Legal, Contracts and other Functions as appropriate.
  • Undertake specific audits, investigations or periodic checks of compliance with regulations as requested including monitoring IM, emails and voice records.
  • Help with training development and implementation/application as it relates to the BG Group Compliance Program.
  • Help develop and then implement appropriate strategies to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory areas e.g. EMIR, REMIT, MAR, MIFID, etc.
  • Oversee compliance with licensing and reporting obligations of EGM, S&O and Oil trading.
  • Work with the Director of Regulatory Affairs to provide cover for important regulatory meetings and help develop advocacy strategy from a business perspective .
  • The incumbent is expected to take a lead role in co-ordinating with like minded industry interests (i.e. typically producers) in determining compliance best practices. This lead role includes active participation in Committees and moderating industry panels.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience required:
  • Be established within and be widely known among the European community as a compliance expert.
  • Must have experience with gas and oil marketing and the regulations that govern Energy Marketing.
  • Previous interaction with, or have worked for other FCA and other regulatory bodies. 
  • Should have experience in performing audits and/or investigations.
  • Proven track record of advising front mid and back office on day to day compliance & regulatory issues/interpretation with regard to business transactions.
  • Track record of focused mindset on timelines/deadlines and high quality IT skill set on databases such as ENDUR.
Knowledge required:
  • Energy Marketing or Finance (Audit) background.
  • Must be familiar with European regulation and exchange-set rules.
  • Must be willing to and be comfortable with raising issues of concern and be very resilient in this regard.
  • Strong academic background with a proven track record of practical implementation to business areas.
  • Must be conscientious and have a “hands on” approach.
Networking
  • Strong networking, including industry counterparts, regulators, government officials and trade associations.
Skills and attributes required:
  • Excellent problem-solving and analysis of pros and cons of alternative solutions from the viewpoint of different interest groups.
  • Commercial skills are very important in understanding the issues and agendas from the viewpoint of all participants.

Special features:
  • Travel within Europe and possible occasional travel to Houston.
