Director UNICEF Programme Division D2

UNICEF seeks a dynamic and strategic leader and manager to head the Programme Division. The incumbent is responsible for directing the development of UNICEF's programme and policy strategies, coordinating technical support in the preparation, review and implementation of country/regional programmes, and in advising and assisting UNICEF in high-level advocacy and management functions.
You will:
  • Lead overall technical programme agenda-setting and strategy development, including introduction of innovations to accelerate quality results.
  • Manage and direct the work of the Programme Division, focusing on results and resource effectiveness, support to mobilization and allocation of resources for use in Headquarters, Regional Offices and Country Offices, and assessment of performance.
  • Advise and assist the Executive Director, Deputies, Regional Directors and Country Representatives in undertaking high-level advocacy on policies and strategies for the well-being of children.
  • Participate in major policy and decision making meetings as a member of the senior management team.
  • Represent UNICEF in inter-agency meetings and in public fora to advocate UNICEF's priorities, policies and strategies in development.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Advanced university degree or equivalent professional experience in international development, public administration or in relevant social sciences.
  • Fifteen years of professional work experience in posts of increasing managerial responsibility in an organization concerned with development issues. A broad range of UN or multilateral  experience in programme planning and operations at the field as well as HQ levels is preferred.
  • Strong professional profile as demonstrated by achievement of results. Experience in leading the implementation of a global programme agenda highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English and command of at least one other UN working language.
