We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Business Development Director, Global Research & Services, in Durham, NC.
Responsibilities:
Direct responsibility for establishing relationships with senior decision makers and clinical research personnel within pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.  Critical functions include market assessment; account targeting, and all facets of client relationship management.  Client relationship management involves needs assessment, developing an understanding of organizational processes, identification of opportunities, facilitating contract negotiations, closing deals and the maintenance of positive, ongoing relationships with key decision makers.
  • Provide detailed analyses of market potential, competitive activity and possible clients.
  • Penetrate targeted accounts at multiple levels to ensure maximum understanding of, and influence over, the decision making process.
  • Identify opportunities and manage the selling process including facilitating negotiations and reaching closure on new business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with key decision makers in all targeted accounts.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key members of FHI 360’s operational management, resource development and contracting teams.
  • Contact key individuals and decision makers in the industry as it relates to Phase 1-2a, 2b, 3 clinical trials
  • Develop a portfolio of contacts with major pharmaceutical and biotech companies
  • Coordinate teleconferences with appropriate personnel, address sponsor questions, concerns as it relates to our area of business
  • Secure new business through relationship building and phone or person to person contact.​
  • Plan and report on activities and maintain a tracking log for these activities
  • Promote the company by attending industry meetings and trade shows
  • Report weekly to Director of Global Research Services on potential opportunities
  • Develop account plans for key accounts and partners to generate strategic relationships that will result in sales
  • Create and develop selling presentations and other necessary sales and marketing collateral to perspective clients
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Pharmaceutical, clinical research services and biotechnology industry knowledge.

  • Excellent judgment in the execution of the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Routine coordination with FHI 360 employees and consultants, on-site and in the field.
Frequently represents FHI 360 to external organizations.
Key individuals and decision makers in pharmaceutical companies.

May supervise one or more staff.   Responsible for managing travel and development/sales related expenses.

Usual working conditions; ability to travel, including international travel up to 50%.

Qualifications:
MD/PhD 5-7 yrs.; or Masters 7-9 yrs.; or BA 9-11 yrs.; or equivalent combination of education and work experience. At least 5 years of experience in similar position in a CRO, pharmaceutical or biotech organization. Strong Sales and new business development experience in selling products or services on behalf of Clinical Research Organizations selling into pharmaceutical companies.  Knowledge of markets related to contraceptive technology, HIV and other infectious diseases preferable.  Foreign language skills a plus.
