Position Title: HR Intern
Type of appointment: Internship 5 months
Estimated Starting Date: Mid May 2014
General Functions:
Under the overall supervision of the IOM Brussels Country Office Chief of Mission, the general supervision of the SRRMO and the direct supervision of the HR Coordinator(s), the incumbent will assist in the organization, implementation and follow-up of the activities pertaining to human resources management and recruitment activities for the Country Office and Regional Office in Brussels. In particular, he/she will perform the following duties:
  • Provide administrative support to Human Resources such as preparation of administrative documents, issuance of contracts, Personnel Action forms, promotions, separations, letters and attestations to staff;
  • Ensure proper and systematic filing of HR and administration files according to established standards;
  • Collect information related to the preparation of monthly payroll for General Service staff; administer attendance registers;
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection process for General Service staff and interns;
  • Perform other related duties as may be required.
Internship training components / learning elements:
The intern will work for the IOM Country Office for Belgium and Luxembourg. The intern will become acquainted with the HR policies of IOM as an international organization, its multicultural environment, its functioning, and will frequently use different languages.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • University Degree in Business Administration, HR, Law or another related field;
  • Confirmed interest in Human resources
  • A previous internship or related work experience in HR would be a distinct advantage;
  • Knowledge of SAP is an asset;
  • Computer literacy, especially database tools;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to timely understand the Organization’s structure and portfolios;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines;
  • Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently
Language
Fluency in oral and written English is required. Thorough knowledge of French is a distinct advantage.
Note:
Priority is given for candidates who should undergo a practice placement in the framework of their studies, hold a scholarship or who are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions.
