INTERN – GENDER AND ECONOMY (PROGRAMME AND RESEARCH SUPPORT)
Background | |
Under the new (2014-2017) regional programme for Asia and the Pacific, UNDP Asia-Pacific Regional Centre (APRC)’s the Inclusive Growth and Poverty Reduction (IGPR) Team will be contributing to regional programme outcomes of inclusive and sustainable growth and development and development debates and actions prioritise poverty, inequality, and exclusion. Towards these results, the work of the Unit includes (a) an engagement with external stakeholders for policy-oriented advocacy, capacity development and knowledge sharing through regional public goods, (b) supporting and working with internal UNDP teams at Country Offices for technical and policy advisory services, (c) working with other internal regional practices, and (d) linking global, regional and country level knowledge for poverty reduction, progress towards MDGs and other the internationally accepted development goals, in promoting human development. As part of its focus on poverty eradication, UNDP will address the specific needs of women, women-led households and other excluded groups. The IGPR Team’s 2014-2017 work plan includes several projects that aim to incorporate gender mainstreaming into its policy, programming and implementation. The projects mainstream a gender dimension well in both the design and implementation as well as in its support to country offices. Project activities planned in 2014 include; a sub-regional project that promotes micro, small and medium enterprise by linking them to regional markets, capacity development on gender and economic policy making and management, and gender statistics. The Intern will provide programme and research support based on the needs of the organization at the time of the internship. | |

Interns’ Expenses:
Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. All costs connected with an intern's participation in the Programme must be borne by: the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), visas, accommodation, etc. Subsequent Employment: The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. | |
