The Organisation

QGC is a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on supplying cleaner hydrocarbon energy to growing domestic and international markets. 

We are establishing Queensland Curtis LNG, a world-first project to turn reserves of natural coal seam gas in the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland into liquefied natural gas (LNG) – a carbon efficient fuel. 

QGC, which is wholly owned by the British energy company BG Group, employs more than 4,300 staff and contractors. 

Position Summary

This role is accountable for maintenance and reliability of the facility and the Field’s infrastructure. Through safe working practices, the role ensures downtime is minimised supporting the achievement of production targets.

The incumbent is accountable for ensuring compliance with QGC Upstream Operations and BG Advance standards and whenever and wherever possible industry best practice is applied to support ongoing improvement in operational performance.

Key Accountabilities

Position Specific

Technical Performance Management 
• Management of maintenance performance activities (daily, weekly, monthly, annual), instigating improvement plans to maximise the integrity, reliability and availability of plant
• Optimisation of operational activities by critically assessing maintenance practices in association with Deputy Field Manager and Area Operations Superintendents
• Manages centralised, specialised resources such as metering, rotating equipment and planning
• Ensure full alignment between Brisbane based Maintenance function and all site/field maintenance activities
• Instil area ownership across site maintenance teams
• Identify gaps in maintenance activities/processes and implement procedures to improve the situation
• Ensure Safety Critical Routines are completed on time and compliance targets are met
• Proactively use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for unplanned outages and ensure a fixed forever approach is taken
• Manage maintenance performance management systems, ensuring that facilities achieve required integrity, reliability, and availability 
• Own maintenance reporting tools, enabling effective vendor management; cost, progress against work programmes and safety competence

Financials• Inputs to plans with respect to Maintenance budget, forecasts, resourcing needs, shutdown/overhaul strategies, project interfaces.
• Preparation of the annual budgets for maintenance operations. Authorises and monitors expenditure on budgets within agreed limits

Processes and Systems • Work closely with Area Operations Superintendents to ensure effective integrated operations planning and efficient execution and control of work
• Ensure CMMS system contains comprehensive and accurate maintenance data by continual review and audit of completed work orders
• Ensure compliance with maintenance plans, prioritise, and measure unplanned work scopes. Instigate interventions to improve performance over a weekly, monthly, and annual cycle
• Optimisation of maintenance man-hours and minimise equipment breakdown by critically assessing maintenance practices in association with Deputy Field Manager and Area Operations Superintendents

People Management• Balance maintenance resources across the field to suit varying workloads, utilising the available overall field manpower to best advantage.
• Identify resources required within maintenance area to meet operational objectives and manage the appointment process in conjunction with HR and Resourcing Team
• Accountable for the capabilities of specialised engineers, service contractors, and vendor personnel. Ensuring services are delivered cost effectively and support improvements for the Site
• Ensure all maintenance staff are competently trained. Coach team members and other key operational staff to develop individual, team and organisation capabilities
• The incumbent must adhere to the annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate timeframes

Health Safety Security and Environment (HSSE)• Contribute and lead the development of maintenance related emergency response training scenarios
• Ensure Maintenance activities fully comply with BG practices including safe systems of work
• Undertake audit and monitoring activities to establish safe working arrangements, advancing systems, and processes in line with industry and internal best practice
• Promote and develop safety and environmental awareness culture
• Every individual has a duty to both themselves and those around them to ensure that safe practice is adhered to at all times. In addition to any specific accountabilities for HSSE, all managers are accountable for HSSE within their area of the Business and are responsible for ensuring that their team adopt exemplary HSSE behaviours

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

Experience• Extensive operations and maintenance experience either on or offshore gas, oil or refining facilities in a leadership role
• Adept at working a matrix structure
• Highly effective project management skills
• Track record of demonstrating success at delivering against maintenance plans and efficiency targets
• Expertise in the resolution of complex problems in operational facilities 
• Proven experience managing a significant budget
• Demonstrates good understanding of cost control and spares management
• Demonstrated experience managing, coaching and developing staff; managing performance appraisals and setting objectives
• Proven ability to identify emerging trends and can foresee maintenance risks and opportunities
• Proactive and visible HSE leadership, demonstrating commitment to safety through language, behaviour and actions
• Proficient in the application of maintenance management strategies and processes
• In-depth knowledge of the gas production process for gas or oil producing facilities

Knowledge, Languages, Skills and Attributes
• Tertiary qualifications in a Engineering discipline or relevant industry experience
• Charted member of relevant institution – highly desirable
• Ability to use appropriate structured tools and processes to deliver plant performance improvement
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with proven ability to engage with a broad spectrum of people
• Ability to challenge outcomes and views which do not meet the production efficiency, availability, and integrity criteria, or may potentially hinder delivery 
• Active team player, participating in the attainment of team goals, encouraging and leading continuous improvement
• Ability to think widely to solve complex technical problems using innovative solutions
• Highly effective stakeholder management and negotiation skills with the ability to influence and direct as appropriate

Special Features
• The position will be based in the field, and the incumbent may be required to work a rotational roster.
• The incumbent may be required to travel domestically and internationally.
