  • This is a unique opportunity to join SMEC's Management team as Regional Director for SMEC's Central Region (NSW & ACT).
  • Become a key contributor to SMEC's strategic plan for the Central Region and be responsible for its successful implementation.
  • Lead our Central Region, which counts 4 offices and 450 employees.
  • Work closely with SMEC's Management team and help shape the future of a private company with an established network of over 70 permanent offices around the world and over 5,000 employees.
The role
This position is Sydney-based. You will report to SMEC's Chief Operating Officer – Australia & New Zealand and will work closely with SMEC's Executive Committee, Regional and Functional Managers.
With a minimum of 15 years of experience in the Engineering Consulting industry, you will focus on growing a strong business. Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Providing leadership and strategic direction to the regional management team. You will act as the chief spokesperson for the organisation to continuously support SMEC values and spirit.
  • Managing and coordinating the activities of SMEC's functional teams operating as profit centres in line with SMEC's strategic plans and regional business plans ((NSW/ACT).
  • Growing SMEC's technical capabilities. You will identify both internally and externally key staff to grow SMEC's technical capability.
  • Delivering improved performance and creating maximum value for SMEC's key stakeholders whilst ensuring collaboration with the wider SMEC business.
  • Supporting the development of appropriate Human Resources Initiatives, ie Succession Planning, Leadership initiatives, Performance Improvement, to ensure SMEC is recognised internally and externally as an Employer of Choice.
The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to consistently:
  • Lead and inspire our management and functional teams. You will be able to lead others to improve performance.
  • Build and Develop relationships with existing and new clients. You will have a strong knowledge of the NSW & ACT markets, their main players and their drivers.
  • Successfully act as a project director on significant projects. You will have an  excellent understanding of the full project life cycle from conception to completion
  • Report and Communicate with internal stakeholders (Regional Managers, Regional Functional Managers, Corporate services, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Committee members)
