Field of activity
One of the major problems related to developing the Nigerian economy is the inadequate power supply, a situation that has existed for decades. The declared aim of the new government is to remedy this situation with a package of measures. The Nigerian government has provided substantial funds for respective investments. The large-scale Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) that GIZ is implementing on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) aims at improving framework conditions for increased investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and rural electrification. The programme is of high political significance and visibility, not least in the context of the German-Nigerian Energy Partnership initiated by the Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Your tasks
•   Managing the renewable energy component of the Nigerian Energy Support Programme
•   Support the Nigerian government in implementing the power sector reform, especially regarding the market access of independent power producers, energy planning and electricity pricing
•   Advice on the development and implementation of strategies and programmes to promote renewable energy
•   Planning and supervising technical and economic feasibility studies
•   Project, finance and human resource management within the component
Your profile
You are an expert in the field of renewable energy, in particular regarding solar PV, hydro power or biomass. You are experienced in privatisation of power systems, energy planning, electricity pricing and grid as well as system management. You have gained experience in change processes and organisational development. Furthermore, your previous exposure to the private sector enables you to bring the private sector perspective into your advisory services. Your intercultural sensitivity enables you to successfully cooperate with a wide range of different partners. You have fluent English skills, German is an advantage.
