Women’s World Banking (WWB) is an international network of MFIs in several countries working to bring financial services and information to low-income entrepreneurs. Its mission is to expand the economic assets, participation, and power of poor women as entrepreneurs and economic agents by opening their access to finance, knowledge and markets. It seeks to alleviate global poverty by expanding the economic assets, participation, and power of the poor, especially women.
About the Job: 
WWB is seeking a Director - Research, Monitoring and Evaluation. S/he will be responsible for developing the research strategy, managing research projects, and guiding the monitoring and evaluation of all projects including implementation and analysis of gender performance indicators. S/he will also follow industry trends and produce high quality research reports and presentations to share internally as well as externally. S/he will report to chief strategy officer (CSO).
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Set and oversee the ongoing research agenda by identifying, designing, and participating in research projects in topics linked to gender and financial inclusion;
  • Enhance intellectual capital in the organization by developing and recommending new methodologies/tools (e.g., database design for quantitative studies and coding design for qualitative studies) to conduct research and as needed, providing research support to the team conducting product related research;
  • Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of organization’s program work to measure impact and effectiveness through high quality data management;
  • Lead the implementation of the gender performance strategy to foster wider adoption of gender specific metrics by financial institutions interested in measuring how well they serve women clients;
  • Work closely with the communications team to synthesize and disseminate research findings aligned to organization’s knowledge and influence strategy;
  • Publish research results in a number of formats, including donor reports, institutional publications, journal articles, conference presentations, and social media;
  • Participate in learning communities to inform the research agenda and share information gained from the research activities;
  • Within the first four weeks:
    • Assume full responsibility of the position;
    • Build the foundation for a strong managerial and mentoring relationship with staff.
  • Within the first three months:
    • Integrate into the senior management team, forging strong working relationships with key staff;
    • Develop an overall strategy and road map for the department to achieve over the next three years.
  • Within the first year:
    • Become a recognized global expert, enhancing the reputation of organization’s position as a go-to global thought leader on women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion;
    • Identify and develop opportunities for strategic alliances, which leverage the strengths of all participants and allows organization to simultaneously advance its mission and expand its funding base.
Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Economics, Sociology, Anthropology or business related field;
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in field research, research design, data collection, analysis, and reporting as well as monitoring and evaluation as it relates to women and financial inclusion;
  • Knowledge and experience working with low-income populations in developing countries;
  • Track record of successfully managing projects with cross functional teams, strategic alliances, and partnerships;
  • Experience in managing and motivating teams of two or more individuals;
  • Computer literacy (Word, PowerPoint, Excel);
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills to include a sound base in econometrics and proficiency in STATA, SAS, or SPSS;
  • Experience in analysis of large datasets within development contexts;
  • Success working in an entrepreneurial environment where limited resources are leveraged to produce maximum results;
  • Ability to establish credibility by building an innovative portfolio of research and program work that addresses gender and economic development;
  • Highly sophisticated interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships internally and externally;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills;
  • Fluency in English required. Spanish/French a plus.
