Online Communications Associate

About the Organization:
The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) is a global multi-donor partnership dedicated to advancing financial inclusion for the poor. CGAP develops innovative solutions to address barriers to financial inclusion through practical research and active engagement with financial service providers, policy makers, and funders.
Established in 1995, CGAP initially played a critical role in building a sustainable microfinance industry, facilitating consensus around good practice standards and helping to professionalize the field. Starting in the mid-2000s, CGAP focused on promoting a diversity of financial services and providers and in particular technology and business model innovations that have the potential to dramatically increase the scale and lower the costs of financial services for poor people.
About the Job:
The Microfinance Gateway (the Gateway) website was established by CGAP in the year 2000 and is the leading multilingual resource for the global microfinance community. This external website exists to promote learning and professional development among practitioners working to advance financial services for the poor. From its inception, it has grown into a comprehensive, multilingual family of websites in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic. The target audience is microfinance practitioners, but site users also include policy makers, donors, investors, and academics. The four Gateway sites (English, Spanish, Arabic, and French) underwent a strategy refresh and redesign in 2013 and are currently being migrated to the Drupal platform, with the Beta site expected to launch in summer 2014. The migration will take four separate websites and merge them into one site. While the site will have the same architecture regardless of what language it is being viewed in, the content remains localized to the region the site serves. The Gateway website sits between content producers and content consumers and contains content that is sourced, submitted by users, translated, or created by the team or consultants. One key goal of the new site is to increase community contributions of content. Content in French, Spanish, and Arabic is managed by individual content editors or regional organizations. The English content is co-managed by the CGAP team and an outsourced firm. Overall site management is conducted by the CGAP team in Washington, DC.
