The position of economist in the Paris Office of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a full-time position located in Paris, with an initial appointment term of one year (renewable). It carries a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with the successful applicant's experience and qualifications. As an integral member of the IMF Europe Office, the Economist will execute a range of tasks under the guidance of the IMF Europe Office Director (Paris and Brussels) and senior staff in the Paris Office.

The main duties and responsibilities include:
- Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on economic and political developments across the European Union and the OECD;
- Supporting the Director and other IMF staff, including by gathering information, writing briefs, preparing speeches and presentations, and drafting meeting summaries;
- Attending seminars and conferences, and summarizing key findings;
- Assisting in the conceptualization and organization of events and research seminars in Paris;
- Responding to phone and e-mail enquiries, supporting IMF missions, liaising with IMF headquarters and European counterparts, and interacting with visitors.
Qualifications
The candidate should meet the following requirements:
- A strong grasp of economics and finance, knowledge of IMF-relevant macroeconomic issues, and excellent analytical and writing skills;
- Full fluency in English, with work experience in an English language environment for a number of years. A working knowledge of French will also be important;
- Strong interpersonal and oral communications skills, and ability to interact effectively and tactfully with IMF, OECD, and EU officials;
- Very good organizational and work management skills, including the ability to multi-task under time pressure;
- Flexibility to work outside regular office hours when needed;
- A high degree of personal initiative, resourcefulness, and independent decision making, as well as sound judgment in handling confidential information;
- Proficiency in relevant information technology and software applications, including data analysis, presentations, and internet tools;
- Several years of relevant work experience, a Masters-level or equivalent university degree, and an academic background in economics. Familiarity with the OECD, European Commission and/or European Central Bank would be an asset;
- Legal entitlement to work in the European Union.
