For a PhD candidate to study the impact of MONA on tourism
The Project:
- Join the Australian Research Council funded project: ‘Creating the Bilbao Effect: MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) and the Social and Cultural Coordinates of Urban Regeneration Through Arts Tourism.’ The impact and success MONA is one of the very few major new art galleries ever to be likened to the Guggenheim Bilbao. This project investigates how it is catalysing a series of changes in urban and regional development and how its presence and performance is creating cultural and economic change. The project has unrivalled access to study these effects as they unfold.
- The successful candidate will join the wide ranging investigation of MONA’s impact on the tourism industry in Tasmania led by Professor Adrian Franklin
- A$32,892 per annum tax-free Elite Scholarship with support from experts in the University of Tasmania, the University of Melbourne and Monash University, plus access to industry partners including MONA, Tasmanian Government ( + Tourism Tasmania), the City of Hobart and the City of Glenorchy.
You are:
- An outstanding academic record and passion for research in the field of tourist studies, cultural studies and urban/regional regeneration
- Possess a First Class Honours degree (or equivalent) from tourist studies, urban studies, cultural studies, sociology, social anthropology or human geography.
