Online Editor wanted at Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung

The Brussels-based EU Office of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung is seeking a full-time editor for the online magazine www.ipg-journal.de to start as soon as possible:
The IPG Journal is a progressive online magazine covering questions of international and European policy. Renowned decisions makers, political journalists and critical observers are amongst the authors. The magazine covers topics including foreign, security and development policy as well as challenges of the European integration and global environmental questions.
The magazine has a long journalistic tradition and has been published by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung for more than 50 years. Currently the online magazine has a monthly range of approx. 200.000 readers.
The EU Office with its headquarters in Brussels and activities in Brussels and Strasbourg was opened in 1973.
The Office participates in the European integration process, backs and accompanies the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany in Europe and contributes to shaping the external relations of the European Union. As an agency of dialogue, education and consultancy, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung thereby fulfils its special role as a ‘political network organisation’ for and with the various European institutions.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Launch of the English version of the online magazine www.ipg-journal.de and continuous conceptual development.
  • Editorial planning of the English content in close consultation/cooperation with the German editors of the magazine in Berlin.
  • Identify material, commission, and edit articles to ensure consistent style and length.
  • Networking and liaising with political representatives, relevant organisations, journalistic partners and within FES. Planning, researching, conducting interviews and video statements with German and foreign partners.
  • Monitoring and supervision of the IPG Journal’s English social media channels & marketing of magazine content.
The ideal candidate will have
  • Professional editorial experience in online journalism and social media with significant knowledge of publication formats in Germany and abroad. Experience of editorial processes is desirable.
  • University degree in journalism, political science, economics or social sciences, with a formal qualification/training in journalism.
  • Strong analytical skills in relation to European and international politics.
  • Sound knowledge of journalistic practices and ethics with a clear sense of relevance and topicality on current political questions.
  • Demonstrate creativity and proficiency in grammar and usage in writing, editing, and choosing headlines.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation and diplomacy skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken fluency of English (native speaker level); good command of German.
