Job Purpose:

Contribute to strengthening the analytical underpinnings of IDB's strategies and policies at the corporate and operational levels.

Conduct evidence-based policy analysis using high frequency, macroeconomic, firm and household data in the areas of IDB's development priorities, distil the strategic and policy insights for application within IDB, and partner with relevant staff in the Operations Complex in developing IDB policies.
Responsibilities:
  • Devise and conducts independent and original research programme in selected areas of direct relevance to IDB.
  • Commission, guide, advice and monitor external research to supplement work undertaken in house.
  • Develop & monitor guidelines for ensuring quality at entry of documents submitted to the Policy Committee.
  • Monitor and follow up application of policies approved by the Policy Committee.
  • Distinctive and value added contributions in the committees and task forces.
  • Identify partnership opportunities with relevant Departments.
  • Provide academic and intellectual leadership and supervise fellow economists and professional staff.
  • Devise and implement learning programs for the promotion of IDB's operational priorities.
Qualification & Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years experience in teaching and economic research in a reputed university or research institution.
  • Evidence of a significant contribution to the creation of knowledge in development economics in the form of books, scientific papers and other publications and presentations.
  • Sufficient knowledge of econometric techniques / modelling
  • PhD in Economics from a recognised and reputed university
  • High quality professional and technical expertise
  • Project Management skill.
  • Excellent written communication skill in English.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficient in MS Office, Windows and Business Applications.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Fluent in Arabic or French would be an advantage.
  • Posses professional and technical expertise.
