IRENA is an inter-governmental organization, mandated by Governments worldwide to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms or renewable energy. In order to do so, IRENA will facilitate access to all relevant renewable energy information, including technical data, economic data and renewable resource potential data. IRENA will share experiences on best practices and lessons learned and regarding policy frameworks, capacity-building projects, available financial mechanisms and relevant technologies on renewable energy.

The Division of Strategic Management and Executive Direction is responsible for providing the Secretariat with an efficient support in managing its human and financial resource and ensures effective and timely delivery of information technology, procurement and logistical services.

Under the supervision of the Senior Communications Officer, the Communications Assistant provides support with the following tasks:

  • Responding to internal and external queries for information, maintaining a log of all such requests;
  • Responsible for maintenance of various databases and ensure timely updating of content
  • Prepare the daily media news clippings;
  • Provide support in all outreach functions;
  • Provide support to IRENAs communications infrastructure such as mailing lists, media contacts, picture database, renewable energy event calendar, publications calendar/database, and sourcing materials;
  • Ensure flow of information to media lists;
  • Assist with compilation of information for production of IRENA materials ranging from newsletters to fact sheets;
  • Assist Senior Communications Officer in reviewing and proofreading materials including articles, editorials, speeches, welcome addresses, statements, and press releases;
  • Manage and maintain submission of paperwork for procurement processes, production of materials, and general communications needs;
  • Provide support in ensuring timely updating of materials to IRENA website;
  • Undertakes research as requested;
  • Work closely with the Governing Services Office to ensure harmonization of outreach activities to governments and event management;
  • Provide on-going support to the Office of the Director-General as required;
  • Provide support to all units within IRENA, responding to requests, and collating information for communications purposes;
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education/courses in the area of communication or business administration would be an asset.

Experience: Seven years of experience in communication support, executive management, and/or public information. Experience of working with intergovernmental processes and constituencies will be appreciated. Good knowledge of MS Office with emphasis in Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook is necessary. Knowledge of other related professional tools is an advantage.

Language: Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of French would be an asset.
