Emergency programme officer - South Sudan

Conflict and violence, insecurity, drought and food crisis are some of the factors affecting humanitarian and development work in South Sudan. This role will coordinate, monitor and develop Christian Aid’s emergency programme in response to addressing the underlying causes and immediate needs of people affected by the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan in line with priorities outlined in the Country Policy and Strategy Paper.

You will have substantial experience of a similar role of working in partnership with local and international organisations to deliver effective emergency programmes, through direct and indirect training, accompaniment, networking and capacity building, representation at relevant internal and external (state and national level) forums, keeping abreast of the humanitarian situation in disaster prone areas of South Sudan so that Christian Aid can respond quickly and appropriately to arising needs.

You will be familiar with the practical application of various participatory conflict and vulnerability methodologies, as well as disaster preparedness and prevention strategies.

Educated to degree level in development, social or environmental sciences or the equivalent, you will have an advanced understanding of emergency issues in a development context. You will also have xcellent programmatic and financial monitoring and evaluation skills and capacity-building skills will be pivotal to the success of this role. You will understand and support the aims of the organisation and the importance of linking relief to longer term development and building resilience in the fight against poverty. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to demonstrate fluency in the English language and proficiency in the use of standard computer software.
