Development and Production North America (DPNA) aims to develop a material and profitable position in North America, including deepwater Gulf of Mexico, unconventional gas and oil sands. In doing this, we will establish capability centres for deepwater and unconventional gas operations as well as carbon efficient oil sands extraction. This will ensure our further development in the area.

Job description

  • The key responsibilities of the Drilling Engineer include
  • Actively participates in Cross-Functional Team meetings and leads the Cross-Functional Team in developing specific well objectives and plan
  • Takes an active role in managing working interest partners during the planning and execution phase of drilling
  • Identifies and evaluates appropriate offset wells. Leads internal well design reviews and risk assessments for assigned wells
  • Confirms subsurface predictions, including pore pressure, fracture gradient, lithology, and hazards. Ensures well prognosis is complete and properly documented, and develops the well design
  • Writes drilling procedures for assigned wells. Selects technology and tangible needs to accomplish well design and objectives. Documents all well design changes using the Management of Change process
  • Provides technical support on daily drilling operations and is the primary contact for field drilling engineering issues
  • Provides full time drilling engineering support to assigned drilling rig(s). Monitors daily morning report, and facilitates data error corrections and coding. Has primary responsibility for well file population and management for assigned wells
  • Remains at the forefront of new and developing technologies, and recommends advancements to improve safety, performance, and reduce costs. When necessary, works with technical specialists and service companies to improve existing or develop new technologies to improve safety and operational performance
  • Provides internal and external benchmarking and end-of-well reports. Coordinates and communicates end of well reviews
  • Assures assigned wells are properly permitted by supporting the Regulatory Specialist, who serves as a primary liaison with Governmental regulatory offices
  • Evaluates drilling activities against pre-established targets, and makes recommendations for improvement based on analysis
  • Has an intimate understanding of, and active participation in HSE Management System. Is accountable for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable regulations and Statoil HSE training requirements and policies
  • Responsible, in conjunction with the relevant Procurement Category Specialist, for preparing tenders, analyzing vendor response, awarding contracts, on-boarding contractors, and managing contractor performance for assigned contracts
  • Assists Procurement with timely acquisition of material, equipment, and personnel. Reviews and approves relevant invoices for accuracy
  • Provides relief for the Lead Drilling Engineer and/or Drilling Superintendent, as required, during their absence
  • Mentors new hires or less experienced peers
  • Performs rig-site supervision as required
  • Actively participates in Statoil Networks and/or Competence Groups as well as industry societies/focus groups (SPE, AADE, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of oil field drilling experience
  • Previous experience with an operator preferred
  • Practical knowledge of wellbore design and well control
  • Good understanding of subsurface issues
  • Experience with Contractor selection and performance management
  • Solid background with risk management, including knowledge of Risk Assessment and Management of Change
  • Good project management skills
  • Good PC skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite and competent with relevant drilling engineering software
