Recently ranked 8th in the Guardian League Table for UK Universities and shortlisted by the Sunday Times for the University of the Year Award, Surrey is a thriving community with ambitious strategies and a drive towards an even greater International profile.
You will be joining the University IT function which manages software licenses for our Teaching & Learning and Research activities and our corporate administration applications. This role is an ideal opportunity for an analyst or licensing officer to take the next step up.
Your activities and responsibilities will range from detailed analysis work through to the provision of advice and guidance. In all aspects of the role, you will be encouraged to propose continuous improvements.
Data analysis and reporting are core parts of the job and you will make effective use of software inventory tools, licence records and Microsoft Excel to identify any potential areas of over- or under-licencing. You will draw out recommendations for remedial actions to ensure that software compliance is maintained whilst cancelling or redeploying unused licences where possible. You will also be responsible for producing regular and ad-hoc management reports such as core licence metrics for audit, financial planning and budgeting purposes.
Acting as an internal consultant, you will provide licencing advice and impact assessments to projects, technical architects and support teams on all pending or proposed changes, where necessary drawing on the detailed knowledge of independent external specialists. By developing an overall awareness of the impacts of new technologies and supplier strategies for software contracts and licencing agreements, you will alert stakeholders to the changes that are relevant to them.
You will have strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders, helping them to take appropriate decisions concerning often complex and highly detailed software licenses. Experience of managing software licences and contracts is desirable, although training and mentoring will be provided where necessary. The appointee will have access to specialist independent third parties for up-to-date advice on managing licenses from major suppliers.
