Applications are invited for the position of Research Officer at the Surrey Space Centre (SSC) for a project entitled “Autonomous Planetary Rovers”. This is a one year, full time post, with possible extension. This position involves vision-based long range navigation and operation of rovers for future planetary missions built on existing rover technology heritage at the SSC STAR Lab (www.surrey.ac.uk/ssc/research/star-lab). The project will investigate feature matching between the orbital imagery and the surface images taken by rover onboard cameras to acquire absolute localization of the vehicle. The RO will be involved in developing algorithms and software for the rover, as well as lab tests and field trials.
The Research Officer will be expected to attend progress meetings, where he/she will present project results through review presentations to external project partners. He/she will also be expected to support MSc/UG projects in relevant fields within the SSC STAR Lab.
