Junior Policy Advisor/Economist

We are seeking to complement our policy and economics team with several junior-level policy advisors and/or economists experienced in carrying out regulatory impact assessment and other types of policy evaluation. The work will primarily consist of policy research and analysis both for projects and proposals, as well as supporting the management and administration of projects.

Key tasks will include but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Conduct research to support analytical studies on European policy topics including literature review, stakeholder surveys/interviews and collection and processing of data using qualitative and quantitative methods as appropriate;
  • Draft sections of project reports and other deliverables under the supervision of senior team members;
  • Support project management including communication with partners and external experts and internal/external reporting tasks;
  • Support for business development, including development and drafting of proposals;
  • Liaison and meeting with clients and stakeholders to review and report project progress.

Successful candidates will have the following skills and competencies:

  • Knowledge of the EU’s institutional architecture and policy making processes; experience with the European Commission’s impact assessment and evaluation guidelines and Better Regulation initiative is a strong advantage;
  • Active interest and knowledge of EU policies on environment, climate change and energy is preferred; candidates with expertise in other EU policy areas (e.g. public health, cohesion policy, justice and fundamental rights, employment and social affairs) will also be considered. Candidates should be willing to work flexibly across different policy areas;
  • A Master’s degree or higher in law, political science, environmental science, economics or a closely related field;
  • At least two years of relevant work experience, preferably within a consultancy or other organisation covering EU affairs;
  • Ability to prioritise a busy and varied workload;
  • Outstanding spoken and written English, including drafting skills;
  • Knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
Milieu’s working language is English. We are aiming to fill this position during October 2015.
