Development Assistant(New York, NY)
Established in 1915 with Helen Keller as a founding trustee, Helen Keller International (HKI) is dedicated to saving the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.  Headquartered in New York City, HKI currently conducts programs in 21 countries in Africa and Asia, as well as in the United States. 
Scope of Work
The New York office of HKI is seeking a Development Assistant.  Reporting to the Development Manager, this position will provide support to back-end operations and logistics for the full Development and Communications department.
Responsibilities
Fundraising Support
  • Prepare Development mailings and special appeals
  • Assist with special event preparations and logistics, i.e. Spirit of Helen Keller Gala and donor cultivation receptions
  • Maintain donor files (print and electronic)
  • Work on all aspects of database clean-up efforts in Raiser’s Edge
  • Make “thank you” calls to direct mail donors
  • Handle fulfillment to donors, i.e. tote bags, tribute cards, monthly donors
Donor Communications
  • Handle donor inquiries and general correspondence
  • Manage incoming mail from Worldview@hki.org andGiving@hki.org mailbox
  • Follow- up with telephone messages from toll-free line 1-877-Keller4
Development Department Operations
  • Manage the archived files
  • Track and reconcile expenses
  • Provide admin and/or office support as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of two years administrative work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Detail oriented with a passion for learning
  • Proficient in using spreadsheets and databases, eager to learn new platforms
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Maturity and comfort to represent HKI at public functions, and communicate with donors and Board of Trustees
  • Demonstrated interest in philanthropy, nonprofit management, international affairs and/or public health.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with teams to meet deadlines and goals
  • Experience, patience and comfort in dealing with a diverse range of people in fast-paced environment
