Cullinan Diamond Mine

Cullinan Diamond Mine is situated in the town of Cullinan, 30km east of Pretoria. The mine is currently mining at a depth of 747 metres using mechanised trackless block-cave mining.

Diesel Mechanic

The incumbent will be responsible to maintain equipment according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Investigate, diagnose and perform trade-related maintenance and repairs to equipment and machinery according to maintenance requirements
• Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, manufacturing and Company standards
• Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Foreman
• Identify spares requirements for underground utility vehicles
• Complete maintenance job cards
• Communicate with clients and supervisors on maintenance activities performed and equipment handover
• Ensure personal and co-workers' adherence to and compliance with Security and the Company's SHE objectives
• Work according to the Mine's Code of Practice and report any observations of this not being done.

Minimum requirements:

• Qualified Diesel Mechanic with Trade Certificate at recognised/accredited institution
• Minimum Grade 12/N3
• Valid Code EB (08) public driver's licence
• 5 years' post-trade test experience as a Diesel Mechanic
• Hydraulic and trackless vehicle experience is essential.

Other skills/competencies:

• Sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English
• High-level of multi-skilling and initiative
• Independent, self-motivated, proactive thinking and ability to do own job planning
• Be on standby and be available for call-outs should the need arise
• Work rotational shifts as required by management
• Pass Vienna Assessment (Level 2) (test to be done on mine).
