DIRECTOR EXPLORATION AND DRILLING

The Director of Exploration and Drilling reports to the Managing Director and has overall responsibilities of identifying new prospective areas for mine development and to generate Corporation income through provisions of exploration and drilling services.

2.1 Principal duties and responsibilities

• Heads the directorate;

• Identifies feasible economic mineral deposits in the country and recommend suitable targets;

• Presents and recommends to the director general exploration projects to be undertaken;
• Formulates and recommends suitable cost effective exploration to be applied in the Corporation projects;
• Prepares and presents to the director general and eventually to STAMICO Board, annual plans and budget for the exploration programs and drilling jobs;

• Monitors progress of STAMICO exploration projects as well as those under joint- venture and submit appropriate comments to the director general;
• Provides drilling technical inputs during negotiations of drilling contracts;
• Presents to the director general appropriate drilling technology

• Reviews periodically performance of drilling rigs and recommend corrective measures;

• Reviews training and skills needs of the staff in the directorate and recommends the appropriate training program
• Keeps abreast with global trends in mineral of the exploration and mining;
• Directs and supervises operations of department

• Conducts open performance review and appraisal of subordinates and gives feed back;
• Develops individual objectives/targets and all performance as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor; and

• Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

2.2 Professional Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Masters Degree in Geology/Mineral Exploration with minimum experience of 10 years 5 of which must have been in a senior position

2.3 Competence among others are:-

• Computer literacy is essential;

• Ability to communicate with excellent writing skills;

• Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili;

• Ability to supervise and direct multifunctional professionals.

2.4 Remuneration

According to STAMICO schemes of service in the salary scale of STAMICO - Salary Scale SMC 10.
