Executive Secretary of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (Grade A6) Strasbourg, France
Based in Strasbourg, France, the Council of Europe brings together the resources of 47 member countries to advance democratic principles based on the European Convention on Human Rights. Advising the Committee for the Prevention of Torture on all aspects of its mandate, you will ensure efficient management of the secretariat and provide inspiring and visionary leadership.
Notably, you will support country visits and ongoing dialogues, organise plenary sessions three times a year and allocate roles and responsibilities to secretariat members whilst championing cross-functional working. At the same time, you will control significant financial resources, build relationships with other international bodies and brief members of the Parliamentary Assembly, whilst promoting knowledge of our activities with civil society and among the general public.
To take on this high profile challenge, you will require a postgraduate degree in law or another relevant discipline, together with extensive professional experience in administrative management positions. Ideally you will be familiar with human rights issues and the deprivation of liberty and you will certainly bring real strategic insight and passion for international affairs, politics and conflict resolution. Finally, it is vital that you are fluent in either English or French, with good command of the second language.
