Position: HIS Coordinator
Reporting relationships Reports directly to: Director of Health Systems Strengthening Direct Reports: None
Work schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday with Saturday availability
Compensation: CPI/GHAP offers a competitive local salary. Initial salary will be based on experience and skill level, increasing over time commensurate with performance. CPI/GHAP has an egalitarian salary structure between local and expatriate staff. Other benefits can be discussed with shortlisted applicants.
Length of term: 6 months contract, with possibility of extension
Location: Based in Mae Sot, Thailand, with travel up to 25%
Position summary: This short-term contract Health Information Systems (HIS) Coordinator is required to work closely with local partners to further develop their HIS and/or monitoring system capacity. The HIS Coordinator internally provides support and recommendations concerning HIS and supports development of documents and guidelines to improve adherence to best practices, executes and documents progress on the overall HIS Strategic Plan, and develops the capacity of other CPI/GHAP staff to be able to more effectively support local partners’ work.
CPI/GHAP’s work emphasizes development of CBOs to effectively plan, manage, assess, and coordinate efforts to provide quality health services to their communities. Capacity-building work at CPI/GHAP includes long-term commitments to work with partners to build organizations that have the ability to manage and plan their own work as well as having the ability to know how and where to seek additional support as needed.
Primary Responsibilities Developed databases using VBA in Excel and Access Provide one-on-one support of partner HIS staff in managing databases Maintain documentation and implementation of HIS standards that are in line with training curriculum and practices
Required qualifications Experience and knowledge Strong computer skills specifically using VBA in Excel and Access Capacity-building experience and patience in this process with non-native English speakers Experience writing case studies, and/or problem-based learning activities for learning Demonstrated training and curriculum development skills that utilize adult learning principles Worked in low-resource settings
Skills and characteristics Can work independently to find solutions to problems that arise in HIS Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences Able to manage and complete numerous simultaneous tasks with organization and limited resources Ability to establish priorities in a time sensitive environment and meet deadlines with consistency, detail, and quality Can navigate complex interpersonal situations and relationships Ability to quickly develop a strong understanding of the local cultural and political context and be able to motivate others and work successfully within these contexts
Education • MSIS or equivalent combination of education and experience
Languages/Background • Fluency in written and spoken English
OR • Fluency in written and spoken Burmese, with good skills in written and spoken English
Preferred qualifications • Direct experience in developing monitoring systems as well as designing and maintaining databases • Knowledge of Burma • Knowledge of delivering health care to displaced persons in conflict zones
