The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has a great opportunity for a strong professional to assume the role of Deputy Director, Economics Department (DDED). The successful candidate will be based at CDB’s headquarters in St. Michael, Barbados.
CDB is a regional multilateral development bank which was established in October 1969 to contribute to the harmonious economic growth and development of the member countries in the Caribbean Region and to promote economic cooperation and integration among them, having special and urgent regard to the needs of the less-developed members of the Region.  CDB began operations in January 1970 and has become a leading catalyst for providing development financing, technical assistance and policy advice to its Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs) for the reduction of poverty.
The Role
Reporting to the Director, Economics Department, the DDED, deputises in the absence the Director and assists the Director in overall management of the Department.
The DDED is accountable for managing the development and implementation of the Bank’s work programmes in economics and policy based lending; socio-economic research and the development, maintenance and dissemination of a timely and comprehensive socio-economic database necessary to inform the Bank’s country analysis, research, operations and decision-making.                                                                            
The Candidate
Eligible candidates should have:
  1. A post-graduate degree in Economics, Public Finance, Public Policy or a related field.
  2. Significant experience in the development and application of economic strategy and policy including field experience on issues relevant to the post.  At least six years’ experience at a senior economist level with responsibility for managing, and mentoring economists and other social scientists.
  3. A track record of successfully leading sensitive consultations and negotiations at the highest policy levels and working with senior government officials and/or private sector executives to resolve complex economic problems.
  4. Knowledge or experience in implementing and/or managing research especially in the area of policy development, and/or development projects.
  5. Sound knowledge of the economics of small open economies.
The successful candidate must be willing to live and work in Barbados.
