Senior Policy Adviser – Aviation Capacity


The CAA
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is the UK’s specialist aviation regulator. Our remit covers broad areas of aviation: safety, economic regulation of major airports, consumer protection, and airspace. 
The role
As part of the CAA’s Policy Unit, the successful candidate will help the CAA secure robust and sustainable policy frameworks for aviation that deliver the safety, choice and value that UK aviation consumer’s demand. Initially as a key player in the delivery of the CAA’s advice and analysis in relation to airport capacity in the UK, the post holder will lead work on airport and airspace operational aspects of the CAA’s advice and assistance to the Airports Commission and to the Government as it considers the Commission’s recommendations.
The holder of this role will be responsible for the delivery of projects utilising expertise from across the CAA to address specific aspects of the UK airport capacity debate. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to use their own operational expertise, to help the CAA play a key part in developing the UK’s policy on airport capacity through our advisory role to Government.
The next few years promises exciting developments in the provision of airport capacity in the UK, and this role gives an opportunity to play a key part in influencing the evidence and insights upon which the Government’s decisions are based.
The candidate
You will be comfortable working independently, and coordinating the inputs of others into a coherent narrative.  You will have the confidence to work directly with senior managers in the CAA and its stakeholders in shaping and communicating the CAA position. You will have solid understanding and experience of the aviation industry, particularly airport and/or airspace operations.
Your communication, influencing and persuading skills also mean you have the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders outside the organisation as well as your own colleagues. You will have a clear focus on delivering high quality results, accompanied by strong analytical skills and a good understanding of the UK aviation industry.
