Senior Policy Analyst x2

  • Deadline : 11 Sep 2013
  • Interview dates : 1st interviews: 23 September 2013
  • Salary : £43,865
Senior Policy Analyst - Water Security
The World Economic Forum identified water as one of the top two global risks – the poorest people in the world are chronically water insecure right now. WaterAid wants a more joined-up approach to water that puts poor people front and centre of the policy-making priority – with a clear focus on what needs to change. Can you help us build a change agenda that delivers for the poorest?
Can you build a robust evidential basis for our advocacy? Can you look beyond scarcity and understand the real drivers of water insecurity? Can you bridge the different policy debates on water (household water, water for the environment, business, national security, poverty eradication?). Are you politically savvy?
WaterAid is looking for a committed change agent who understands how to inspire and provoke policy change. You will be skilled in assessing the evidence and working out what needs to change. You will have the political and personal skills to influence key actors at all levels – to develop a pro-poor policy change agenda on water security.
Senior Policy Analyst - Sanitation
No town, city or country in the world has achieved acceptable standards of public health without access to safe sanitation. Yet access to sanitation is one of the areas where the international development community is making least progress. Two things are holding back progress. There is a lack of consensus about the right public policy interventions on sanitation and, second, too many official policy-makers view sanitation as an outcome of development and not a driver of poverty eradication.
Can you help change this? Can you look at the examples of what's worked in sanitation, identify the necessary and sufficient conditions and build a compelling change agenda that can turn around the neglect and weaknesses of arguably the most important sector for human health.
You will have first class research and advocacy skills and a demonstrated political savviness that is adaptable for a variety of country contexts. You will have a passion for your work and an ability to win colleagues and allies for the cause.
WaterAid will be recruiting for both the roles from a pool of candidates and will offer the appropriate position (the Water Security and the Sanitation role) to the two successful candidates on the basis of their fit for the role, their interests, particular skills/experience and relevant background.
WaterAid is committed to offering a competitive benefits package. Working with us, you will gain from a wide range of employee benefits such as an exceptional pension fund, medical cash plans, an employee assistance programme, generous annual leave and Save as you Learn schemes, as well as fitness and lifestyle programmes.
