Organizational Setting |
The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications (NA) implements the IAEA’s Major Programme 2, “Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection”. This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme’s objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes. The Associate Programme Officer (APO) works in the Deputy Director General's Office (DDGO) and will report directly to the departmental Programme Coordinator, whose function is to ensure overall coordination of activities between the Department's programmes with a view to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of implementation, and contributing to programme transparency and outreach. Cooperation with the IAEA's Department of Technical Cooperation, other relevant technical departments and IAEA offices, including the Office of the Director General, as well as coordination with the programmes of other international organizations is also required. |
Main purpose |
As a member of the team led by the Programme Coordinator, the APO assists in the preparation and implementation of both IAEA regular budget and extrabudgetary programmatic activities. As a primary task, the APO will support efforts to effectively implement and report on the use of extrabudgetary funds. Furthermore, the APO will support efforts to increase the effectiveness of collaboration between NA and other IAEA departments. |

The APO is a collaborator, providing input and support as needed, and developing expertise and knowledge in the subject areas; and a team member, working collaboratively within the Department as well as with other departments. |
Partnerships |
The APO works closely with other staff members of DDGO-NA and will also collaborate with other programme-related positions within NA, as well as in other departments as needed and interact with donors as required. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $46 730 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $29 674*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave,pension plan and health insurance.
