The Organisation
QGC is a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on supplying cleaner hydrocarbon energy to growing domestic and international markets.

We are establishing Queensland Curtis LNG, a world-first project to turn reserves of natural coal seam gas in the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland into liquefied natural gas (LNG) – a carbon efficient fuel.

QGC, which is wholly owned by the British energy company BG Group, employs more than 4,300 staff and contractors. 
Position Summary
To provide:
- leadership of the Bowen Tight Gas Sand (TGS) Team
- management of exploration work programmes
- expert geoscience advice and consultancy for exploration activities
- coaching of relevant technical staff

To ensure that all subsurface work relating to the Bowen TGS project is delivered and adheres to all Subsurface Policies and Standards.

In addition, there is a strong focus on: (i) integration with other functional workstreams (e.g. well engineering, completions, PT); and (ii) integration with non-technical functions (e.g. land access, environment, cultural heritage, tenures) to ensure all approvals are in place to execute the exploration programme
Key Accountabilities
Position Specific• Delivers subsurface aspects of approved projects, such as regional play fairway evaluations, prospect generation, appraisal evaluation;
• Applies geological / geophysical expertise and professional judgment in delivering assigned projects and presents completed analysis and recommendations at Peer Reviews, Peer Assists and Functional Reviews as part of the BG Group Value Assurance Framework;
• Ensures regional play fairway evaluations are consistent with BG workflows and standards;
• Ensures all geological uncertainties and risks are incorporated into forward exploration plans, and are included in all estimates of reserves;
• As required, contributes to all phases of planning, delivery and evaluation of projects and well operations as assigned;
• Develops internal and external stakeholder relationships, the latter primarily with partners and contractors, appropriate to the project;
• Ensures parenting standards are applied across the team, specifically compliance with APR, ADR and other relevant HR processes;
• Supports the professional development of geoscientists within the team (e.g., direct supervision, review, mentoring, and training);
• Provides expert advice and support to the commercial group and other technical teams (e.g., drilling and completions, production, development, reservoir, commercial groups);
• Monitors and supports recommendations to advance un-conventional technology in QGC’s geosciences group;
• Ensures all own evaluations are documented and related geological data (both petro-technical and physical) is handled in accordance with the Data Management Standards;
• Ensures implementation of BG’s Subsurface Policies and Standards and related processes covering HSSE, EAC, VAF, PRI, Economics etc.

People Management• Leads the team to achieve objectives through effective performance management and coaching;
• Supports the professional development of geoscientists within the team (e.g. direct supervision, review, mentoring and training);
• The incumbent must abide by company policy in relation to HR policies and procedures such as annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate timeframes.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed
• Extensive experience working in an operator organisation
• Demonstrated experience leading a team to achieve outcomes
• Experience in mentoring, coaching and training technical teams
• Experience working unconventional and conventional plays
• Requires experience of assignments and projects in different plays, with exposure to three of the following:
• Prospect generation and evaluation
• Well operations planning and delivery
• Field appraisal and development including reservoir characterisation
• Regional and new venture evaluations
• Awareness of other disciplines e.g. RE, PT, Petrophysics
• May have experience of building effective networks with contractors, academia and external R&D bodies

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
• Tertiary qualifications in geology/geophysics or related discipline
• Proven technical track record in delivery of quality, technical projects
• Proven skills in time management and project management
• Ability to present complex issues, simply and effectively
• Excellent presentation skills / clear and convincing report writing ability
• Demonstrated competence in geosciences software/tools
• Self-aware, able and willing to grow and extend their knowledge and skills in conjunction with their Line and Parent Manager
• Able to proactively manage their own professional development, in consultation with their Line and Parent Manager

Special Features
• Occasional travel is required both interstate and overseas
