Chemical Engineer at Gas Technology Institute

Gas Technology Institute (GTI), a leading research and development and training organization serving energy markets, has an opportunity for an Engineer/Principal Research Chemical Engineer in our Process Research Group. This position is responsible for performing laboratory and pilot-scale thermal conversion and gas processing projects, with focus primarily on supporting technology development and pilot-scale operations for biofuels production.

The job entails:
• Working in a team to develop operational plans and to make the necessary modifications in the pilot plant systems to meet test goals within test budget
• Providing support to pilot-plant operations and test campaign execution (includes shift work)
• Gathering, organizing, and treating test data
• Using process modeling tools to simulate thermochemical processes
• Assisting in preparation of documentation, including elements of comprehensive test reports, operating procedures, and job safety assessments

Position Requirements

We require a MS or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field with 1+ years experience in experimental R&D. In addition, we require familiarity with thermal conversion systems (such as pyrolysis and gasification) in laboratory or industrial environments, including experience working with operating equipment and/or processes at elevated temperature and pressure. Experience with catalytic process such as petrochemical refining is a plus. Ability to clearly communicate and present information verbally and in written format are necessary. Process modeling experience with Hysys or AspenPlus is also desirable.
