Role

The primary purpose of the post is to take responsibility for providing leadership and strategic direction to the BSHF International Programme team in the development or work programmes which support the international transfer of knowledge and experience in the field of housing and urban development, with the aim of facilitating the scaling up of good practice and improving access to decent housing. This includes, for example, the co-ordination of the World Habitat Awards and related peer exchange activities. The role will be based at the BSHF offices in Leicestershire and will involve some international travel. Salary: £45,000 - £55,000.

Established in 1976, BSHF works both in the UK and internationally to identify innovative, sustainable and scalable housing solutions and to foster the exchange of information and good practice. BSHF is based in Coalville in Leicestershire, where it has strong historical ties. Coalville is within commuting distance of Birmingham, Derby, Leicester, Loughborough and Nottingham.

Qualifications

You should have a relevant academic qualification and substantial experience in the housing or international development sector. Experience of leading a team, excellent interpersonal and networking skills and a strong knowledge of issues, organisations and networks relating to housing and urban development policy and practice are essential as is experience of working internationally. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences and should have a strong desire to influence housing policy and practice to bring about positive change.
