Senior Economist

The U.S. Department of State, headquartered in Washington, D.C., seeks an experienced international economist with an interest in policy to serve as Senior Economist on an appointment up to four years in the Office of Chief Economist.
Ongoing/potential future topics for analysis concern international economic issues that implicate key foreign policy interests such as global capital flows, emerging market economies, economic sanctions, energy and natural resources, environmental issues such as climate change, trade and investment, and economic development.   The incumbent will also develop and maintain contacts in the policy community, both inside and outside of government.  
The successful candidate should be a citizen of the United States and have a graduate degree in economics or a related field plus at least five years’ professional experience; excellent analytical capabilities, especially regarding the theories and principles of international economics; knowledge of research and policy issues concerning energy, the environment, and international trade; strong interpersonal, planning and organizational abilities; persuasive oral and written communication skills; and ability to foster professional relationships with relevant contacts.
The successful applicant will need to obtain a high-level security clearance.
