Fundraising Officer

Established in 2002, International Medical Corps (IMC) UK is a humanitarian relief and development organisation providing health care and training to save and rebuild lives in communities afflicted by conflict, poverty and natural disasters. International Medical Corps UK is an independent, registered charity and an affiliate of a US-based charity of the same name.

International Medical Corps UK, is seeking a Fundraising Officer, based in London, to design and initiate a basic fundraising strategy. Our trustees have approved a modest investment in fundraising at this stage of the organisation’s development. The fundraising officer will provide support to trustees, staff and supporters for major donor giving, trust and foundation applications and some community activities. Recruitment and management of volunteers will be an element of the job. Measuring success and managing contacts will also be important aspects of the position. The position reports to the Director of Operations and works closely with the programmes, finance, communications and advocacy officers.

Key Duties

To provide administrative support and follow up services to trustees and other staff who will be leading on major donor, corporate and trust / foundation fundraising.

• Articulate in writing a crisp and effective case for support.

• Innovate and develop creative new funding streams.

• Collaborate with the communications officer to produce effective collateral for fundraising projects.

• Prepare funding proposals and solicitations for submission to potential donors.

• Conduct research into funding prospects of different types – companies, individuals, legacies, trusts and foundations.

• Manage donor contacts in the Charity’s Fundraising database - Raisers Edge and maximise the potential of the system to support fundraising growth.

• Donor acknowledgement, retention and cultivation.

• Recruit and manage volunteers, especially for community based fundraising activities.

Person Specification

Required
- A relevant degree or professional qualification
- Minimum of 2 years experience in fundraising - Strong self-starter who is highly motivated to raise funds for International Medical Corps UK - Creative thinker willing to try out new ideas
- First rate communications skills with the ability to express complicated issues clearly and succinctly in written and oral presentations, and to listen and report back effectively
- Existing knowledge of and involvement in charity fundraising, including exposure to major gifts, Trusts and Foundations, community and challenge event fundraising, with a demonstrated track record of success
- Demonstrated ability to manage a business function
- Committed to principles of ethical fundraising
- Effective team player willing to “muck in” when required
- High level of personal organisation

Desirable - Familiarity with international aid agencies and humanitarian issues - Prior successful experience of working in an international NGO - Direct experience of using Raisers Edge
