Applicants must be in possession of a tertiary qualification and appropriate postgraduate qualification in ICT, or Computer Sciences At least 10 years applicable experience, of which three (3) years has been as a senior manager, And can command respect in the transport sector. |

The incumbent must also have significant experience in providing leadership in the IT sector. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator and skilled negotiator with a proven ability to define, develop and manage strategic tasks in the field of integrated IT planning and IT policy development.
S/he will have experience in and a proven ability to create and lead an effective and efficient team that will foster an interoperable IT system for national transport that is responsive to the plans, human resource requirements and overall developmental objectives of the Department.
Purpose: To maintain effective information technology infrastructure and operations
Duties:
Manage infrastructure (networks, servers, desktops, databases. data centres) and solution design
Provide infrastructure which supports the voice and data requirements of business
Ensure infrastructure is aligned to business SLAs
Manage and administer the Local Area Network
Ensure network connectivity between LAN and WAN
Design networks and maintain internal and external availability
Manage network performance
Troubleshoot network problems
Manage network and firewall configurations
Monitor server operations daily
Manage system performance and optimization
Maintenance of the operating system including access and security control
Ensure the implementation of tested and approved server patches
Implement disaster recovery planning and procedures including system and file back ups
Manage and troubleshoot server issues
Calibrate the DBMS in order to improve performance
Consult with the Business Analyst on data base aspects
Advise management on the acquisition of applicable hardware and software
Monitor and change database to optimise usage and reliability.
Do research on the development and the use of databases and operating systems
